HRRL Report

So with just two races left in the Hampshire road race league (Alton 10 mile and
Netley 10k) the mens
A team is in 4th place, equal with Stubbington Green on the same amount of points. Julian is in 2nd place in the mens individuals with Richie Berogna and Dave Woods at 13th and 14th place respectively. This is a great achievement for a club the size of ours.

Other men in the individuals are Brian at 165th, Gary at 157th, Tony at 146th, and Graham Clarke at 136th. Well done to all these striders for making the top 200
The ladies A team have been hit with a run of injuries and are in tenth place. This means we may well get placed in division two next year. But Anita Crawley in 32nd place and Paula Hill in 29th place are carrying the fine traditions of the club forward. Also doing well are Lucy Rolfe in 66th and Julia in 82nd. The last race at Eastleigh produced a fine showing of the team spirit in the club and a number of great performances. Dave Woods brought the mens team home in a time of 35.25 with Scott Feltham knocking 9 minutes off of his 10K personal best with a fantastic 39:40. Just behind Scott was Steve Knight in 40:39. And the final mens
scorer saw a very welcome return for Simon Toms who crossed the line in 41:32. Welcome back Simon. Its great to see you running again.
Other notable appearances were a return for Paul Nash, and 6th place in his age group for Graham Clarke. The ladies were represented by Paula Hill - 43:52, Anita Crawley - 44:56, Lizzie Jenner - 52:26 and Claire Thompson - 54:11. Well done ladies. A
full team again.

1.7 X-Country Representative.

Apologies – Nothing to report, finished mid table.

1.8 Striders League.

Apologies – Graham sent the following report:

To date, 50 club members have participated in at least one race – 19 ladies, 31 men.

Of these, 7 ladies and 15 men have participated in at least 50% of the cross country events while the corresponding figures for the HRRL races are 3 ladies and 8 men.

The current top 5 positions in the league are as follows:

Ladies                                              Men

Melanie Hunt       36 pts               Julian Manning           59 pts (despite being precluded from TRXC events !)

Lizzie Jenner        37 pts               Graham Bowpitt        64 pts

Paula Hill             55 pts               Dave Woods              72 pts

Julia Revill           64 pts               Brian Harris               72 pts

Anita Crawley       88 pts               Graham Clarke          85 pts   (age on my side!)

Note that there are still TWO HRRL events to go after which the two worst performances of each individual are dropped and bonus points allocated, so final result is still “open”!

1.9 Social.

The Chairman expressed his thanks to Lee Weeks for organising the curry nights.

Mark has written a quiz, it was agreed to do this in September.

1.10 Publicity Officer

Apologies – Steve sent the following report:

Key Point Summary

. Limited activity on publicity front, I have postered most of the shops in Denmead again, using a focus from the London Marathon

. Contact was made in advance of the XC with The News, giving them a briefing.  Unfortunately I was away for the weekend but don’t believe they turned up to report; (Peter Maisey added that The News did a write up prior to the event)

. Business cards continue to be issued to people spotted out running – some success and general increase in awareness.

I’m planning to get some A3 sized DS plasticated sheets done with the name to put at Kidmore Lane so people can see who we are when we gather.

2.0 Coaching.

Apologies – nothing to report.

The chairman expressed thanks to all the coaches; Kevin, Gary, Dennis, Julia, Steve and Anita.

3.0 Club Kit.

Brian has new stock of club vests. Details on how to order club sweatshirts is now on the web site.

4.0 Members Representative.

Apologies - Graham Clarke and Paul Hiles are members representatives. Nothing to report.

5.0 A.O.B.

A member had proposed that with the high price of fuel anyone driving to race meetings should receive a standard £2 from each passenger regardless of distance. Mark will mention at the start of Wednesday meetings.

Next Meeting
