KEVIN REEVES - HEAD COACH
UK ATHLETICS
LEVEL 3 COACH
Kev remembers doing time trial runs around his school playing field when he was 8, just for fun, and his first training run at the age of 14. He also remembers being inspired by great runners at that time, and ever since, who have continued to spark his enthusiasm. His interest in fitness has broadened since then to include qualifications in weight-lifting, weight-training, fitness assessment, exercise counselling and aerobics. He has competed at most events from 800 m up to half marathon, on the road, cross country, indoor and outdoor track.  More recently, his coaching development has been enhanced greatly by Sports Science study at University, which incorporates coaching but also sports psychology, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and sports injury, to name but a few. He sees his coaching development as integrated with scientific or mentoring roles which may arise. He completed his level 3 qualification in 2009.

NICK BAKER
UK ATHLETICS
LEVEL 2 COACH
John first qualified as an athletics coach in 1991, also coaching at another local club. He has progressed through the grades, qualifying for Level 3 in 1999.  In 2001, he was awarded a Diploma in Sports Psychology and in 2002, a Sports Coaching Certificate, both by Newcastle University. John has been a keen runner for many years. A former Chairman of the Club for many years, Dennis was one of the founder members when it was formed in 1989.  He qualified as a Level 2 Coach in May 2004.  In addition to road races, he is a keen advocate of off-road running and a valuable member of the cross-country team.  As well as the above attributes, Dennis has a wicked sense of humour. A family man, Nick passed the Level 2 exam in 2004 and in addition to being a Strider's Coach, he also coaches at a  children's running club in Petersfield.  He has been a competitive runner for many years and competes in around 20-25 races a year, including XC. He enjoys the friendly atmosphere and competition at Denmead Striders and hopes to become a better coach through the help and assistance of others at the club. Nick holds the Club's record for the fastest Marathon time of 2:37:59 (London 2008)

STEVE TREVENNA
LEVEL 1 RUNNING FOR BEGINNERS
Our Club Captain, Julia qualified as a coach in March 2008 and gained her Level 2 status in 2009.  She is an Ultra Distance specialist taking part most weekends in long distance events. She is a valuable member of the Club and a good motivator, always offering encouragement to fellow members. These skills, together with her coaching qualification will especially benefit the new members to the Club to whom Julia always gives a warm welcome. I started running in 1987 to keep fit. A year or so later I was asked by Dennis Sanderson if I would like to join a new running club which was just starting up in Denmead, the rest as they say is history. I compete at all distances from 5K upwards and have completed four marathons. I enjoy running off-road and organise off-road runs around the Meon Valley over the Winter. My favourite racing distance is 10 miles. I qualified as a UKA Level 1 coach in May 2009. In October 2010 I obtained a Leader in Running Fitness licence after attending a one day theory and practical session organised by UK Athletics. I am still an active runner, so as well as coaching some sessions I will also be taking part.

I started running on 1st Dec 2003 ( well, New Year’s Resolutions never seemed to work) with the ambition of perhaps running a couple of miles without dying.  To motivate myself, I signed up for the Great South in 2004..  After running without the support of a club for a couple of years and getting up to a half marathon, reality bit when foolishly applied for London and got in!  Panic followed but, joining DS gave me the support I needed to get around in 4:06. Since then the club has provided the motivation and support for further marathons and a lot of enjoyment with the club on the way. I’ve just completed my level 1 Running for Beginners Training and will be contributing to sessions soon. I’m especially happy to support new runners to the club.
