COACHING AND CLUB DEVELOPMENT

In line with the Club objectives (click HERE), Denmead Striders welcomes runners of all abilities. We have a team of experienced coaches and session leaders, qualified to UK Athletics standards (click HERE). Coaching is structured to enable members to run to their full potential. Training schedules for club sessions are produced twice a year, for the summer and winter (click HERE). Training schedules can also be prepared individually for Club members, tailored to their needs, from middle-distance up to the Marathon.

Coaches can be consulted and are able to discuss and offer advice on the many aspects of running and training, within their qualification. In fact, members and coaches have even contributed to new research in running:-

The coaching team are always open to new ideas and meet to plan and discuss the best way forward, taking into account member's feedback. A vital part of Club success is the continual qualification of suitably experienced members as coaches or session leaders, so this is actively encouraged.

Success

Club members have enjoyed success at various distances, not only in road running, but a strong element enjoy cross country running and also multi-sport events such as triathlon. Where the emphasis is on team participation, success has been found in the Today's Runner Cross Country League. Both men's and ladies' teams were League champions twice and represented Hampshire in the National Final. To broaden and develop the Club, during the 2002/2003 season, the members joined the Hampshire Road Race League where, again, the teams were Division champions. Team success continued and the men were League Champions in the 2004/5 season, finishing second in 2010/11. The team captain and coaches actively encourage member participation to the best of their ability.

If Club funds allow, we also subsidise costs for some race events. In the past, these have included the cost to members for participation in the Clarendon Way Marathon Relay, the Midsummer Dream event in Seaton, Devon and the Ryde 10 miles.
